Where is Bhutan?
Bhutan is a small, landlocked nation located in the Eastern Himalayas between India and China. Its landscape ranges from subtropical plains and forests in the South to subalpine forests and snowy mountains in the North. Bhutan is a predominantly Buddhist country and is known as the last stronghold of Mahayana Buddhism.
Do I need to use a tour operator to book my travel?
It is a government regulation that you must use a license Bhutanese Tour Operator to book your travel to Bhutan or one of their international partners. Our licenced operators are Bhutan Tusk Motorcyle Tours and Bhutan Dorji Holidays.
Do I need a visa to enter Bhutan?
All International tourists wishing to enter Bhutan require a visa which must be pre-arranged through a license Bhutanese Tour Operator or one of their international partners. Visa clearance must be obtained through your tour operator prior to travel. International tourist visas a cost of USD $40 applies. This can be paid in advance to you tour operator or travel agent.
I have heard that it is expensive to visit Bhutan due to a government imposed tariff to limit tourism? How will this affect the price of my holiday?
The compulsory minimum daily rate to be paid by tourists visiting Bhutan is $200 per day (low season) and $250 per day (high season). Many people assume that this is an additional cost, on top of your daily costs of accommodation, food, travel, guiding etc. However, this is not true. The rate is a minimum daily package price, $70 of which is a government royalty that goes towards providing free education, free healthcare and poverty alleviation. So the minimum price of your package must be $200/$250, paid to your official tour operator - it is not an additional charge. This must be paid to your tour operator who will take care of the portion for the government royalty.
